- Program Overview: The Health Services Center (HSC) provides “quality comprehensive HIV/AIDS services to all HIV infected and affected persons” in a 14-county service area in eastern Alabama. HSC provides medical services to people living with HIV regardless of their ability to pay. The team includes three board-certified infectious disease doctors, nurse practitioners, a psychiatrist, and mental health counselors. In addition, case management services are offered to assist clients with food, housing, clothing, and referrals to other social services and supports. With funding from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, HSC is implementing Project IMPACT, a prevention program focusing on substance use, HIV, and viral hepatitis C in the community using the evidence-based intervention, RESPECT. HSC also offers treatment for substance use disorders.
