State Rural Transit Assistance Programs (RTAP)
Federally funded state programs that provide training and technical assistance to improve mobility for Americans living in communities with populations less than 50,000. State RTAP funds are often used to provide training for rural and tribal transit agency personnel and to fund scholarships to attend transit-related conferences and training.

Strategic Technology Technical Assistance Teams for Transit Agencies
In-person and off site technical assistance for small-urban, rural, and tribal transit agencies to develop technology action plans to help meet strategic goals.

Tribal Transit Scholarships
Assistance for eligible tribal transit system employees that would like to attend a National Rural Transit Assistance Program sponsored training, professional development program, or educational conference.

Grants for Transportation of Veterans in Highly Rural Areas Inactive
Grants for new organizations to assist veterans with transportation in highly rural areas. Applicants should provide transportation services to VA medical centers and assist with transportation services in connection with the provision of VA medical care to these veterans.

Rural Community Innovations: Transportation Planning Grant Inactive
Funding for rural communities to develop a transportation plan that addresses accessibility and equity.

Grants for Nationally Significant Freight and Highway Projects (INFRA) Inactive
Federal funding for highway and freight projects of national or regional significance, including infrastructure projects in rural areas, expanded access to broadband, and projects that affect public health.

Rural Surface Transportation Grant Program Inactive
Grants for projects to improve and expand the surface transportation infrastructure in rural areas to increase connectivity, improve the safety and reliability of the movement of people and freight, generate regional economic growth, and improve quality of life.

Bus and Bus Facilities Infrastructure Program Inactive
Grants to assist in the financing of buses and bus facilities capital projects, including replacing, rehabilitating, purchasing, or leasing buses or related equipment, and rehabilitating, purchasing, constructing, or leasing bus-related facilities. A minimum of 15% of the total program funding will be awarded to projects located in rural areas.

Rural Business Development Grant Program: Technical Assistance for Rural Transportation Systems Inactive
Funding to provide technical assistance and training for rural and tribal transportation system agencies nationwide for the purpose of improving passenger transportation services and/or facilities.

Grants for projects that work to improve livability for all residents of a community. The 2023 application cycle will focus on public spaces; housing; transportation; civic engagement; diversity, equity, and inclusion; digital connections; community health; and economic empowerment, among others. Applications from rural communities are encouraged.
