State Rural Transit Assistance Programs (RTAP)
The Rural Transit Assistance Program (RTAP) provides funding for state level programs that offer training and technical assistance to improve mobility for Americans living in communities with populations less than 50,000. State RTAP funds are often used to provide training for rural and tribal transit agency personnel and to fund scholarships to attend transit-related conferences and training.
Program objectives:
- Improving the quality of training and technical assistance resources available to the rural transit industry
- Encouraging and assisting state, local, and peer networks to address training and technical assistance needs
- Promoting the coordination of transportation services
- Building a national database of information about the rural transit industry
Rural and tribal transit agencies are eligible for assistance.
This is a technical assistance opportunity provided at no cost.
Some states provide reimbursement for training needs.
Contact the appropriate person from the Directory of state RTAP Managers to request assistance.
