Funding priorities include rural, frontier, and tribal communities.

Funding to support community-based organizations (CBOs) to recruit and retain behavioral health personnel, and provide loan repayments, scholarships, and stipends to paid and unpaid CBO behavioral health staff. Grants to train primary care residents in mental and behavioral health for pediatric, adolescent, young adult, and other populations who are at-risk or have experienced abuse, trauma, or mental health and/or substance use disorders, including those related to the effects of gun violence. Priority will be given to proposals to train residents in rural areas, including for tribes or tribal organizations in rural areas.

Grants to support community-based child health projects that improve the health of mothers, infants, children, adolescents, and families in rural and other underserved communities by increasing their access to health services.

Community Economic Development Focus on Energy Communities Inactive
Grants for projects aimed at business development opportunities and creating employment for low-income individuals located in energy communities that have experienced employment loss and/or economic dislocation because of declines in the fossil fuel industry and/or are disproportionately reliant on fossil fuel energy production or distribution. Bonus points are given to projects that create jobs in rural and tribal communities.

Alcohol and Other Substance Use Research Education Programs for Health Professionals (R25 Clinical Trial Not Allowed) Inactive
Grants to support research educational and outreach activities that complement other formal training programs in the mission areas of the NIH Institutes and Centers, especially the public health impact of alcohol, opioids, and other substances, their associated consequences, and the persistent stigma associated with them.

Rural Communities Opioid Response Program - Medication-Assisted Treatment (RCORP-MAT) Access Inactive
Grants to establish new Medication-Assisted Treatment access points and increase capacity for the provision of sustainable MAT services in high-risk rural communities, thus increasing access to evidence-based treatment for individuals with opioid use disorder (OUD) living in rural areas.

Funding for a Rural Behavioral Health Workforce Center (RBHWC) to provide career and workforce training activities in New York to address behavioral health needs, particularly substance use disorders. RBHWCs are part of the Rural Communities Opioid Response Program, an initiative with the goal of reducing morbidity and mortality resulting from substance use disorder, including opioid use disorder, in high risk rural communities.
