This funding record is inactive. Please see the program website or contact the program sponsor to determine if this program is currently accepting applications or will open again in the future.
The California Song-Brown Healthcare Workforce Training Program will provide grants to support postgraduate family nurse practitioner/physician assistant (FNP/PA) fellowships for clinical training in primary care. Programs should be affiliated with an ambulatory care setting within underserved communities, including but not limited to primary care clinics, Federally Qualified Health Centers, and Rural Health Clinics.
Strategies should include:
- Establishing procedures to identify, recruit, and admit FNP and PA fellows who possess characteristics which would suggest a predisposition to practice in areas of unmet need, and who express a commitment to serve in areas of unmet need
- Implementing counseling and placement programs to encourage training program graduates to enter practice in areas of unmet need
- Providing a preceptorship experience in an area of unmet need to enhance the potential of training program graduates to practice in such an area
Priority will be given to programs with demonstrated success in:
- Graduating individuals who practice in medically underserved areas
- Enrolling members of underrepresented groups in medicine to the program
- Locating the program's main training site in a medically underserved area
- Operating a main training site at which the majority of the patients are Medi-Cal recipients
Applicants must provide clinical training in primary care and be affiliated with a community-based ambulatory patient care center in an underserved community in California.
Up to $5,000,000 in funding is available for one year, with $4,000,000 allocated to support FNP fellowship grants and $1,000,000 to support PA fellowship grants.
Programs may receive $80,000 per enrolled first-year fellow. Family Nurse Practitioner fellowship programs may receive support for up to 4 fellows, with an award of up to $320,000. Physician Assistant fellowship programs may receive support for up to 2 fellows, with an award of up to $160,000.
