California Small and Rural Hospital Relief Program

The California Department of Health Care Access and Information (HCAI) will provide grants for small, rural, and Critical Access Hospitals in California for seismic safety compliance.
Award categories:
- Pre-design - Funds to evaluate buildings as defined in the California Administrative Code, Chapter 6,Article 2, of Part 1, Title 24. Review of as-built conditions, seismic evaluations, and materials testing and condition assessment projects/reports
- Design - Funds for activities necessary to inform construction project needs and design, such as architectural and engineering services
- Construction - Funds budgeted construction activity including general and special contractor services, inspectors, project management, and other related construction delivery functions
Eligible applicants in California include:
- Small hospitals defined as those having less than 50 licensed general acute care beds.
- Rural hospitals defined as those with a rural or frontier designation in HCAI's Medical Service Study Areas
- Critical Access Hospitals designated by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services
Funding amounts are determined by tax collection amounts. Projections are $2-3 million annually will be available.
