Purpose

The University of Iowa Public Health Strike Force (CPH Strike Force) is a program where students are deployed for hands-on learning opportunities that transition theory into practice while addressing emerging public health issues. The focus is on diverse public health and preparedness related organizations that need assistance in emergency events or other projects the organizations do not have capacity to complete.

Projects may include, but are not limited to:

  • Community service
  • Emergency response
  • Model and analytics development
  • Systems thinking
  • Outcome analysis

According to the program contact, many placements are in rural communities.

Public health and preparedness related organizations in Iowa are eligible to request assistance.

The students may be deployed at no cost. There is an option to offer student compensation; however, projects are not required to include compensation. Students accepting unpaid roles may be eligible for support through University of Iowa resources.

Application process

Complete the application form at the bottom of the program website.

Submit only one project per application. Once the request is submitted, a representative from the University of Iowa College of Public Health will make contact within 3 business days to discuss next steps or gather more information. Emergent requests will be handled quickly.
