Purpose

This opportunity, short name PORT-TIP, is a 6-month training and funding opportunity to enhance the effectiveness of post-overdose response teams (PORTs) through comprehensive education on trauma-informed approaches and evaluation planning to assess the implementation and effectiveness of these practices. Special consideration will be given to PORTs that serve and operate in rural jurisdictions and PORTs that serve Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC).

Activities:

  • Kick-off Call – Sites will attend a kick-off call with NACCHO and CDC to meet the other selected sites and review the project goals and expectations.
  • Trauma-Informed Care for Post Overdose Outreach Teams Course – At least 2 members of each awarded PORT team will complete the Trauma-Informed Care for Post Overdose Outreach Teams Course. This asynchronous, online course contains 5 modules that cover topics such as trauma, overdose, trauma-informed principles, and trauma-informed practices that can be integrated into PORT teams' internal and external interactions.
  • Learning Community Calls – Teams will participate in 3 learning community calls that cover topics relevant to their efforts to increase trauma-informed and resilience-focused approaches to their work with families impacted by substance use.
  • Individualized Technical Assistance (TA) – Teams will participate in up to 2 TA calls with the TA team during the project period. The purpose of these calls is to support teams in developing an evaluation plan that will assist them in measuring the implementation and impact of trauma-informed practices.
  • Evaluation Plan – Teams will develop an evaluation plan that outlines how implemented trauma-informed practices can be measured and tracked. The plan may include methods for evaluating both the design implementation processes, practices as well as outcomes related to the teams' trauma-informed practices.
  • End-of-Project Evaluation – Towards the end of the project, sites will complete an evaluation to provide feedback on technical assistance received and the project overall, helping to inform future project design.
Eligibility

Eligible applicants are local health departments, tribal health departments, state health departments, governmental agencies, and community-based organizations with an established, active PORT that is interested in adopting and implementing trauma-informed practices into their work as a team and within the community.
