EPA Environmental Justice Thriving Communities Grantmaking Program Region 10 Sub-Grants
Philanthropy Northwest provides funding and technical assistance for environmental justice projects in disadvantaged communities in EPA Region 10. Disadvantaged communities are defined as areas where multiple factors, including both environmental and socioeconomic stressors, may act cumulatively to affect health and the environment and contribute to persistent environmental health disparities.
There are 3 types of grants.
- Tier 1: Assessment - Applicants in Tier 1 should have an identified environmental justice issue and a community of focus, but they are not expected to propose an intervention or solution to the issue.
- Tier 2: Planning - Applicants in Tier 2 should have an identified environmental justice issue and a community of focus, and they should be working with that community to lay the groundwork for an intervention and/or to involve and mobilize the community.
- Tier 3: Development - Applicants in Tier 3 should have an identified environmental justice issue and a community of focus, and have clearly defined implementation steps for an intervention that will impact the environmental justice issue.
The current application cycle is for Tier 3 grants only.
