The Oregon Health Authority is offering funding for Oregon's secondary education, Career and Technical Education (CTE), training programs, and other health-related workforce programs for students between 8th -12th grade. Awardees will administer a scholarship program to support students and create pathways for physical, oral, and behavioral/mental health careers, including but not limited to:
- Supporting students as they complete a certificate, licensure, or other credentialing in the healthcare workforce, either in collaboration with CTE, school, or other training programs/institutions leading up to or after graduation
- Supporting students as they transition into college or other healthcare related fields
Recipients should prioritize scholarships to students who are committed to a career in the healthcare workforce sector, interested in a behavioral or mental health focus of study, students experiencing financial hardships, and who showcase culturally specific and culturally responsive services for marginalized populations.
Required program activities:
- Operationalize a scholarship program aimed at increasing the diversity and representation of marginalized populations in the healthcare workforce
- Develop a mechanism to receive applications from students/trainees and utilize OHA approved tools to determine award priorities
- Be responsible for the management, equitable distribution of awards and tracking of trainees who are awarded scholarships
- Provide oversight to students/trainees as they complete their training and either seek employment in a Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA) or otherwise identified area of need in Oregon or continue to another institution of higher education. Work with the Oregon Office of Rural Health for trainee support in obtaining employment.
Eligibility requirements:
- Provides healthcare related training to students in 8th-12th grade, located in Oregon
- Ability to collect the required data
- Developed infrastructure to distribute student scholarships
Award ceiling: Up to $62,500 per
year/per health care discipline, for a total of up to
$125,000 per year
Project period: 2 years
Estimated total program funding:
$750,000 for physical and oral health pathways and
$1,000,000 for behavioral health pathways
