Purpose

Participants in the Community Microgrid Assistance Partnership (C-MAP) will receive technical support and/or funding to design or deploy a microgrid that aligns with community-defined priorities to improve or to optimize existing microgrid technology.

C-MAP offers four different topic areas that provide funding and other resources to meet key stages of development:

  • Regional microgrid community operations assistance
  • Regional microgrid community development assistance
  • Microgrid development
  • Microgrid transformation
Eligibility

Eligible applicants include nonprofits, state and local governments, and federally recognized American Indian and Alaska Native tribes. Applicants must be from or directly represent specific underserved and indigenous communities in remote, rural, and islanded regions of Alaska, Hawaii, and tribal lands in the west and midwest and benefit at least one area with a population of 10,000 or less.

Amount of funding

Project amounts and timelines are:

  • Regional microgrid community operations assistance:
    • Amount: $200,000 base, $75,000 per community with a maximum award of $650,000
    • Project period: 24 months
  • Regional microgrid community development assistance:
    • Amount: $300,000 plus $50,000 per community with a maximum award of $550,000
    • Project period: 24 months
  • Microgrid development:
    • Amount: up to $300,000
    • Project period: 22 months
  • Microgrid transformation:
    • Amount: up to $400,000
    • Project period: 18 months
