Purpose

The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services offers funding for teaching hospitals to support family medicine obstetrics fellowships in rural and underserved areas of Iowa. Awardees can submit claims for reimbursement of eligible expenses.

Participating fellows must commit to full-time family medicine obstetrics practice for 5 years in a rural or underserved area.

Eligibility

Eligible applicants:

  • Teaching hospital as defined in Iowa Code section 135.193 that is currently offering a one-year fellowship in family medicine obstetrics
  • Intends to be a teaching hospital that may offer a one-year fellowship in family medicine obstetrics at some point during the project period

The Department of Health and Human Services does not intend to open further funding cycles during the project period from January 1, 2025, to June 30, 2030; therefore, applicants should apply even if their teaching hospital and/or fellowship program is under development or not fully operational at the time this opportunity is released.
