Purpose

The Building Socially Connected Communities program will provide grants for projects that work to build social connections, strengthen community bonds and enhance the well-being of people in Indiana who are experiencing loneliness.

Funding areas:

  • Community infrastructure - Enhance community centers, meeting spaces, and facilities that serve as the focal point for social engagement
  • Social clubs and interest groups - Creating and sustaining social clubs and interest groups tailored to the preferences and needs of those experiencing loneliness
  • Transportation accessibility - Improve transportation options for those experiencing loneliness in rural areas, ensuring they can easily access community events, social gatherings and essential services
  • Intergenerational initiatives - Programs that facilitate meaningful interactions between different age groups
  • Local business support - Enhance local businesses and establishments that cater to the needs and preferences of those experiencing loneliness, creating inviting spaces that promote social interactions
  • Community well-being - Support and promote community programs that increase awareness, reduce stigma and provide resource programming
Eligibility

Eligible applicants in Indiana communities with a population under 50,000:

  • Local governments
  • Nonprofit organizations
  • Community groups
  • Other entities that are focused on loneliness

Eligible partners include, but are not limited to:

  • Faith-based organizations
  • Small businesses
  • Community organizations
  • schools

Quick action projects:

  • Maximum award - $5,000
  • Minimum award - $1,000
  • 1:1 match required, 30% of match can be in-kind

Large impact projects:

  • Maximum award - $50,000
  • Minimum award - $5,001
  • 1:1 cash match required

A total of $200,000 is available.
