Purpose

The American Heart Association is offering full-time Public Health AmeriCorps service opportunities for people interested in working toward health equity in rural communities.

Public Health AmeriCorps:

  • Helps meet public health needs of local communities by providing needed capacity and support in state and local public health settings and advancing more equitable health outcomes for communities who are currently or historically underserved
  • Provides pathways to good quality public health-related careers by providing exposure through onsite experience, training, and more, with a focus on recruiting AmeriCorps members who reflect the communities in which they will serve
Eligibility

Eligible applicants are second year service members who are interested in full-time AmeriCorps work. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and successfully pass a national criminal background check. While most opportunities are full-time, part-time may be considered for retirees and students.

HeartCorps members will receive:

  • A biweekly living stipend of $1062.50
  • Healthcare benefits
  • Childcare subsidy, if eligible
  • An educational award after successful completion
  • 200+ hours of professional development and training to launch or expand a public health career
  • Direct access to job opportunities upon successful completion of program with satisfactory performance
