Purpose

AmeriCorps NCCC program allows local communities to engage diverse teams of 8-12 AmeriCorps members for services projects designed to strengthen local communities. Teams are placed with sponsoring organizations working to meet a critical community need that would not be fully addressed without additional assistance.

During their 10-month service commitment, NCCC teams will complete a variety of projects, generally 3 to 13 weeks in duration, in one of four regions across the U.S. Project focus areas include:

  • Natural and other disasters - projects that can span the entire disaster cycle from preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation to help communities affected by floods, hurricanes, wildfires, and other disaster
  • Environmental stewardship and conservation - projects to preserve, protect, and enhance parks, natural habitats, and at-risk ecosystems as well as improve knowledge and understanding of environmental conservation practices
  • Infrastructure improvement - projects to improve quality, safety, and accessibility of public infrastructure, preserve cultural and historic integrity of communities, and enhance public spaces
  • Energy conservation - projects to increase community energy efficiency, increase use and application of sustainable energy technology, and improve knowledge and understanding of sustainable energy practices
  • Urban and rural development - projects to improve community food security and nutritional practices, more thoroughly or efficiently meet medical and basic human needs, improve public safety and community resilience, alleviate poverty and advance racial equity, improve access to housing, and expand educational and economic opportunity.
