The Center for Family Research is offering training for individuals to become certified facilitators capable of conducting the Strong African American Families (SAAF) or Strong African American Families – Teen (SAAF-T) programs.
The SAAF and SAAF-T programs are designed for African American youth (ages 10-14), teens (ages 14-16), and their caregivers and feature an evidence-based, culturally-relevant curriculum to help young people avoid substance use, sexual risk-taking, and other behavior problems while promoting positive development and strong family interactions.
Both 2024 trainings will be held at the Center for Family Research in Athens, Georgia on the following dates:
- SAAF training – June 25-27
- SAAF-T training – July 10-12
The SAAF and SAAF-T programs were evaluated with African American families living in small towns and rural communities in Georgia. Programming is appropriate for youth in rural, urban, and suburban settings.
The trainings are open to sites currently operating SAAF or SAAF-T programs and to new organizations interested in adopting either/both programs.
Training costs are as follows:
- New SAAF sites: $7,000 plus $100 per registrant
- Current SAAF sites: $500 per registrant
