HEAL Southwest Leadership Cohort

The Health, Equity, Action and Leadership (HEAL) Initiative offers an 18-month leadership training opportunity for Indigenous nurses working in underserved rural communities across Navajo Nation in New Mexico and Arizona. The training is designed to help participants become better leaders and advocates to build capacity, advance health equity, and improve the overall health of their communities.
The Cohort will begin in fall 2024. Participants are expected to commit to 5 hours per month outside of their full-time work and 10-15 non-consecutive days of in-person training. Training components include:
- 4-day, in-person training in Gallup, New Mexico
- Bi-monthly 2-hour virtual trainings
- Quarterly 4-hour in-person meetings in the Gallup area
- One-on-one and group mentorship
- Professional development package aligned with global health equity goals
Eligible applicants must:
- Identify as American Indian/Alaska Native or have deep personal and professional experience with Native Communities
- Work as a registered nurse and be employed at an Indigenous serving facility in the Fort Defiance/Gallup and surrounding area
- Be employed by their current organization for at least 1 year prior to the start of the fellowship and be committed to remaining at your organization for 2 years after
There is no cost to participate. The program will cover all travel costs to attend in-person training events. 8-10 fellows will be selected for this cohort.
