The Mental Health Initiative is an educational and grant program designed to assist Indiana congregations in addressing mental health and wellness among their members. Rural congregations and congregations of color are encouraged to apply.
Program objectives:
- Understanding ways that the congregation can benefit from the intersection of mental and spiritual wellness
- Harnessing the congregation's spiritual practices and faith claims to promote healing and mental well-being
- Understanding cultural dynamics that can limit the discussion of mental health in congregations
- Identifying and offering mental health resources to support the faith community
- Offering rejuvenation and healing to the congregation
- Learning ways to support clergy people and their spiritual and mental wellness
Participants will attend 5 educational sessions.
- April 26, 2024 (In-person in Indianapolis)
- June 4, 2024 (7:00 - 8:00 p.m. Eastern on Zoom)
- August 15, 2024 (7:00 - 8:00 p.m. Eastern on Zoom)
- September 13, 2024 (In-person in Indianapolis)
Congregations from the counties listed on the program website are eligible to apply.
Team requirements:
- Select 2-4 people to serve as the Mental Health Initiative team.
- Designate one person as the project director who is expected to attend all sessions.
- Include a pastor or clergy person on the team.
Participants will receive up to $40,000.
