Purpose

This opportunity, Project SCALES, will provide funding for projects that aim to build capacity and increase the resilience of food systems by supporting partnerships between school food authorities and growers, producers, distributors, and processors, as well as other industry partners.

Goals and objectives include:

  • Improve the K-12 school food supply chain by incentivizing innovation
  • Reduce barriers for schools in sourcing, ordering, processing, and storing locally sourced foods
  • Support school nutrition teams in using fresh local ingredients
  • Leverage social responsibility of food industry to create innovative solutions for the school food system
  • Identify sustainable solutions and best practices for the school food system that are scalable and replicable
Eligibility

Eligible applicants will include at least 3 partners with one being from the food industry and one being a school food authority. Rural school food authorities are eligible.
