Rural Grocery Specialist Program

The Rural Grocery Specialist Program is a training for resource professionals to better support rural grocers through business transition. The Rural Grocery Initiative works to support healthy food options, jobs, local tax base, and attraction/retention of residents in rural communities.
The program consists of 7 core modules, delivered in a self-paced, online format. The course also includes homework assessments, interactive discussion boards, and two Zoom meetings.
Modules include:
- Assessment of grocery attitudes and relationship building
- Transition planning fundamentals
- Business valuation fundamentals
- Communicating about transition
- Finding new ownership
- Buyer funding and hiring a manager
- Into the future and additional resources
The course is designed for cooperative extension professionals, economic developers, and other resource providers who support rural grocers and rural community vitality.
The registration cost is $685 with early bird registration $50 off.
