South Carolina Rural and Medically Underserved Area Grant

The South Carolina Department of Health and Human Services (SCDHHS) provides grants to support the creation and/or renovation of healthcare facilities that serve rural populations in South Carolina.
Funding must be used as one-time infrastructure. The program goal is to promote the creation and/or improvement of healthcare facilities that deliver services that are high quality, cost-effective, coordinated, and equitable in rural and medically underserved settings. In order to achieve these goals, facilities will need to commit to improving health outcomes, increasing access to essential healthcare services, and providing quality care.
New and/or renovated facilities must provide clinical healthcare services, including but not limited to:
- Primary care
- Maternal and infant care
- Pediatric care
- Behavioral healthcare
Eligible applicants are public and private healthcare providers who will offer services in rural areas as designated by the Center of Rural and Primary Healthcare (CRPH) and/or will provide services in medically underserved areas as designated by the Federal Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA).
Award ceiling: $3,000,000
Estimated total program funding:
$15,000,000
After construction/renovation is complete, each awardee must operate the facility for the proposed purpose for a minimum of 5 years.
