This program offers grants for eligible health professional training programs in Minnesota to administer scholarships to students enrolled during the 2023-24 school year. Grantees should provide both academic and professional counseling and prioritize rural clinical placements for all scholarship recipients. Scholarship recipients will be required to enter into an agreement with Minnesota Department of Health to practice in a rural area of Minnesota for 2 years following graduation.
Expected grant outcomes include:
- Increased support for health professionals in training
- An increase in the number and percentage of recent graduates of grantee health professional training programs practicing in rural areas of Minnesota
- An increase in awareness of rural training and practice opportunities among grantee health professional training programs and students
- Increased and strengthened partnerships between health professional training programs and rural sites for clinical placement and employment
Eligible applicants are accredited health professional training programs that are located in and train students living and working in Minnesota.
Eligible training programs:
- Advanced practice nursing
- Dental therapy
- Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC)
- Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)
- Licensed Psychologist (LP)
- Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW)
- Physician assistant
Award ceiling: $200,000
Award floor: $27,500

$400,000
Grantees must distribute funds as scholarships by March 31, 2024.
