Purpose

The Northwest Heath Foundation provides funding for organizations that have been overlooked by traditional funding streams with the goals of reducing incarceration and racial disparities in the criminal legal system, promoting healing, and advancing community safety in Oregon. Priority will be given to organizations working in rural communities where racial disparities are most notable and counties where incarceration rates are among the highest.

There are two types of grants.

Project grants - Provide culturally specific or responsive programs/services and attend training and convenings.

Project grants with capacity building support - Provide culturally specific or responsive programs/services, attend training and convenings and participate in a capacity building program

Funding priorities:

  • Victim and survivor services
  • Violence reduction and/or services that prevent involvement in the criminal legal system
  • Reentry, diversion, and services that reduce involvement in the criminal legal system
Eligibility

Applicants must be based in Oregon and organized as one of the following:

  • 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization
  • Project or program with a 501(c)(3) fiscal sponsor, with a written fiscal sponsorship agreement in place
  • Federally recognized tribal government

Award ceiling: $225,000 for Project Grants and $325,000 for Project Grants with Capacity Building Support
