Purpose

Essentia Health offers a 12-month family medicine obstetrics fellowship program designed to provide practical experience for family medicine physicians who intend to practice in a rural community. The fellowship takes place in and around Duluth, Minnesota.

Participants will gain experience managing high-risk and complicated pregnancies and births. Rotations will include:

  • Obstetrics (20 weeks)
  • Outpatient primary care at a rural clinic location (12 weeks)
  • Critical care (4 weeks)
  • Emergency/trauma (4 weeks)
  • Electives (4 weeks)
Eligibility

Eligibility requirements:

  • Hold a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree
  • Have completed a 3-year family medicine residency program accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA)
  • Hold or be eligible for a Minnesota medical license
  • Hold or be eligible for board certification
  • Have a valid Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Registration Number that allows for writing prescriptions
