Purpose

The Alaska Native-Serving Institutions Program will provide funding for eligible institutions of higher education to improve and expand capacity to serve Alaska Native students.

Program priorities include:

  • Meeting student social, emotional, academic, and career development needs with a focus on underserved students
  • Increasing postsecondary education access, affordability, completion, and post-enrollment success
  • Projects that support activities to strengthen and institutionalize native language preservation and revitalization
Eligibility

Eligible applicants are Alaska native-serving institutions of higher education that have an enrollment of undergraduate students that are at least 20% Alaska Native students.

Additional requirements include:

  • Be accredited or preaccredited by a reliable, nationally recognized accrediting agency or association
  • Be legally authorized by the state in which it is located to be a junior or community college or to provide an educational program for which it awards a bachelor's degree
  • Has an enrollment of needy students and has low average education and general expenditures per full-time equivalent undergraduate student
