The Florida Health Literacy Initiative will provide grants to help Florida adult English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) and family literacy programs integrate health education into their instruction. The initiative is seeking to cover all areas of the state.
Family literacy programs should include:
- Parent literacy instruction
- Interactive literacy activities between parents and their children
- Training for parents regarding how to be the primary teacher for their children and full partners in the education of their children
- Age-appropriate education for children
Eligible applicants include 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and government-based agencies (such as school districts and state/community colleges) that provide adult ESOL and/or family literacy instruction in Florida.
Award ceiling: $5,000
Project period: 1 year
Estimated number of awards: 14
Awardees may also request up to 80 copies of either Staying Healthy: An English Learner's Guide to Health Care and Healthy Living or Staying Healthy for Beginners student books.
