The Kentucky Rural Hospital Loan Program (KRHLP) provides loans for rural hospital operations and facilities in Kentucky with the overall goal of providing needed direct healthcare services in rural areas.
Funds may be used for:
- Maintaining or upgrading hospital facilities
- Maintaining or increasing the current staff
- Reopening a qualifying former hospital
- Providing services that are not currently available
Eligible applicants are hospitals located within a Kentucky county that has a population of less than 50,000 according to the most recent annual estimates issued by the U.S. Census Bureau.
A qualifying former hospital is a hospital that has closed within 36 months prior to an application for a loan and has obtained a certificate of need to open a new hospital or other health facility.
Loan amounts range from $25,000-$1,000,000 per facility project, not to exceed a cumulative total of $2,000,000 per rural hospital every 5 years.
Terms will range between 5-20 years depending on the project type.
An application fee of $1,000 is required at the time of submission.
