This opportunity will award 2 cooperative agreements to establish a national Center for Indigenous Innovation and Health Equity (CIIHE) to address health disparities and advance health equity in American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) populations, and Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (NHPI) populations. CIIHE will support community efforts, such as education, services, research, and policy development initiatives, that seek to reduce or eliminate AI/AN or NHPI health disparities.
Expected activities include:
- Partner with academic institutions, indigenous leaders, and AI/AN and NHPI communities on CIIHE activities
- Identify and implement a culturally responsive framework for research, education, service, and policy development to support prevention and the improvement of chronic disease outcomes
- Design and provide education and training to support community capacity building
- Establish and manage the CIIHE advisory board
Public or private nonprofit entities, including faith-based organizations and AI/AN and NHPI organizations, are eligible to apply. Examples of eligible institutions include:
- State and territory governments
- County governments
- City or township governments
- Special district governments
- Federally recognized tribal governments
- Tribal organizations
- Public and state-controlled institutions of higher education
- Private nonprofit institutions of higher education
- Independent school districts
- Nonprofits with or without 501(c)(3) status
- Public housing authorities
- Indian housing authorities
Award ceiling: $2,250,000 per year
Award floor: $1,750,000 per year
Project period: 5 years

Each award will focus on one of the two focus populations: AI/AN populations or NHPI populations. An application may only address one focus population. An applicant may submit one application for each focus population.
