The Health Resources and Service Administration provides assistance for approved substance use disorder (SUD) treatment facilities in recruiting and retaining qualified SUD professionals to provide direct treatment and recovery support services to patients with or in recovery from SUD. Professionals in eligible STAR LRP disciplines at an approved site are eligible to apply to the STAR Loan Repayment Program, which is open to a broader range of SUD treatment and recovery clinicians and paraprofessionals than other Health Resources and Services Administration loan repayment programs.
Sites must meet one of the following criteria to be eligible:
- Have a Mental Health Professional Shortage Area (HPSA) designation
- Located in a county with a three-year overdose mortality rate greater than the national average, based on CDC data.
A complete listing of approved facility types is available on the program website.
There is no cost for the assistance provided.
Application guidance and a link to the online application process are available on the program website.
