The North Carolina Office of Rural Health provides funding to community organizations to help uninsured, low-income North Carolina residents of all ages gain access to free and low-cost prescription medications. Grant funds will be used to provide the services of Prescription Assistance Coordinator (PAC) to assist individuals with evaluating their optimal prescription drug choices and applying for free, discounted and low-cost drugs through public and private medication assistance programs.
Safety net organizations that provide or will provide medication assistance programs for uninsured, low-income patients are eligible to apply, including:
- Federally qualified health centers and look-alikes (FQHCs)
- Free and charitable clinics
- Health departments
- Hospital-owned primary care clinics
- Rural health centers
- School-based and school-linked health centers
- Area Health Education Centers (AHEC)
Funding amounts must be commensurate with the size and scope of the proposed project and will depend on available funds. The project period is one year.
