The CDC is seeking partnerships with public health agencies and tribal and nongovernmental organizations to serve as host sites for public health associates.
The Public Health Associate Program (PHAP) is a paid training program with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention where associates gain hands-on experience across a variety of public health settings. PHAP associates are assigned to various public health host sites across the United States and U.S. territories, including tribal health departments and organizations.
Host site requirements:
- Develop work activities that help the host site meet the PHAP curriculum competencies and provide associates opportunities to gain experience in one public health program area
- Provide associates with a host site supervisor who has prior supervisory experience and is able to monitor the associate's day-to-day work activities
- Provide training opportunities and robust on-the-job public health experiences suitable for recent college graduates with little, or no, public health work experience
Eligible host sites include public health agencies, such as:
- State, tribal, local, and territorial public health organizations
- Nongovernmental organizations
- Public health institutes and associations
- Academic institutions
- CDC quarantine stations
Applications from rural areas are strongly encouraged.
While associates are funded by CDC, they should be integrated into host sites and treated as regular members of the team. Host sites are required to provide a broad range of training opportunities to support and foster ongoing professional growth, development and attainment of competencies, and increase the associate's job-related capabilities.
Associates should attend trainings, meetings, and seminars that other agency staff members attend. Host sites must provide office space and equipment and cover local travel and training costs for associates.
Application instructions are provided on the program website.
