Purpose

The Hawaii Pacific Basin AHEC provides placement and financial assistance for medical students and residents who would like to gain clinical experience in rural Hawaii sites and rural/remote sites in the Pacific Islands. Rotations are typically 4 weeks.

Locations include:

  • American Samoa
  • Guam
  • Hilo
  • Kauai
  • Maui
  • Palau
  • Pohnpei
Eligibility

Medical students and residents are eligible to apply. Unless approved in advance, resident physicians must be a PGY2 level or higher.

Geographic coverage
Hawaii and Pacific territories (American Samoa, Guam, Hilo, Kauai, Maui, Palau, and Pohnpei)
Amount of funding

University of Hawaii students and graduates may receive up to $2,500 for travel and living expenses.

Non-University of Hawaii students and residents may receive a $250 stipend for travel expenses.
