Purpose

Rural Experiences for Health Professions Students (REHPS) Program places students pursuing a career in a health field at one of five colleges and universities in South Dakota in a hands-on, 3 or 4-week experience with preceptors established in rural areas of South Dakota. Students are paired together, promoting interprofessional studies, and are required to complete a community project during their experience.

The goal of the REHPS Summer Experience Program is to increase the number of medical professionals who practice in rural areas throughout South Dakota.

Eligibility

South Dakota students in the following areas are eligible to apply.

  • Clinical psychology
  • Master of social work
  • Physician
  • Physician assistant
  • Medical laboratory science
  • Nurse practitioner
  • Pharmacy
  • Nursing
  • Occupational therapy
  • Physical therapy

Amount of funding

Students are provided with housing, some meals, and a stipend.
