The Dental Faculty Loan Repayment Program provides funds to dental and dental hygiene training programs to establish loan repayment programs for dental and dental hygiene faculty in order to increase the number of faculty in the workforce, specifically in the areas of general dentistry, pediatric dentistry, public health dentistry, and dental hygiene. Additional preference will be given to applicants providing loan repayment to pediatric dentistry faculty supervising dental students or residents and providing clinical services in dental clinics located in dental schools, hospitals, and community-based affiliated sites.
Program goals include:
- Reduce the faculty burden of qualified educational debt payments through participation in the institutionally developed loan repayment program
- Encourage long-term employment in a dental academic setting through loan repayment
- Develop a continuous evaluation mechanism to identify and address concerns of the program participants and assess and improve program performance
Eligible applicants include programs of general, pediatric, or public health dentistry in public or private nonprofit dental or dental hygiene schools, or approved residency or advanced education programs in the practice of general, pediatric, or public health dentistry. Tribes and tribal organizations are eligible if they otherwise meet the eligibility requirements.
Up to 8 awards will be made. Estimated award amounts
are:
- Year 1 - $100,000
- Year 2 - $150,000
- Year 3 - $200,000
- Year 4 - $250,000
- Year 5 - $300,000
The project period is 5 years.
