Purpose

The West Virginia State Loan Repayment Program offers loan repayment assistance to primary care health professionals who agree to practice in a Health Professional Shortage Area of West Virginia.

Applicants must agree to a minimum 2 year service contract, with a maximum of 4 years.

Eligibility

Eligible professions include:

  • Primary care physicians
  • Nurse practitioners
  • Physician assistants
  • Nurse midwives
  • Psychiatrists
  • Dentists
  • Pharmacists
  • Nurses (BSN)
Geographic coverage
West Virginia
Amount of funding

Maximum award amounts vary by profession as follows:

Physicians and dentists:

  • $50,000 for initial 2 years and $25,000 for 1 year extensions

Physician assistants, nurse practitioners, and pharmacists:

  • $40,000 for initial 2 years and $20,000 for 1 year extensions

Nurses (BSN):

  • $25,000 for initial 2 years and $12,500 for 1 year extensions
