Purpose

The West Virginia Medical Student Loan Program offers forgivable loans to medical students in West Virginia who agree to practice in an underserved area of West Virginia upon graduation. Applicants must practice in a shortage field including family medicine and other primary care fields.

Loans are forgiven at the rate of one year of service per year of loan.

Eligibility

Medical students in West Virginia can apply.

Eligible specialties include:

  • Family medicine
  • General surgery
  • Internal medicine
  • Obstetrics and gynecology
  • Pediatrics
  • Psychiatry
Geographic coverage
West Virginia
Amount of funding

Up to $10,000 per year for 4 years.

Loans may be repaid or forgiven through a service contract.

Application process

Applications must be obtained from the financial aid office of one of the following participating educational institutions:
