Purpose

The New Mexico Nursing Loan for Service Program offers forgivable loans to nursing students who agree to practice in an underserved area of New Mexico upon completion of their education.

For every year of service provided in a designated shortage area within New Mexico, a portion of the loan will be forgiven. If the entire service agreement is fulfilled, 100% of the loan is eligible for forgiveness.

Eligibility

Applicants must be New Mexico residents accepted into a nursing program at a New Mexico public college or university.

The award is based on financial need of the student. Awards cannot exceed $16,000 per year, renewable for up to 4 years.
