The Hawaii State Conrad 30 J-1 Visa Waiver Program offers a J-1 Visa waiver to foreign physicians who commit to serving for 3 years in an underserved area of Hawaii, waiving the foreign medical residency requirement and allowing them to remain in the United States. The program is intended to provide physician services in areas that typically have difficulty attracting and retaining physicians.
Primary care physicians, psychiatrists, and sub-specialty trained physicians are eligible to apply.
This is an incentive program that offers foreign physicians a visa waiver, allowing them to work in the U.S.
Hawaii participates in the State Conrad 30 program but does not provide direct recruitment services for J1 candidates. There are several Conrad 30 slots available; however, opportunities for J1 physicians in the state are limited.
To request a State of Hawaii Conrad 30 waiver recommendation letter, candidates need to:
- Apply for a J-1 Visa waiver through the U.S. Department of State
- Get a waiver review case number from the U.S. Department of State
- Secure an employment contract with a medical facility in a HPSA or Medically Underserved Area, signed by the candidate and the head of the facility
- Send required information to:
