Purpose

The Wisconsin Department of Health Services provides grants to increase the number of resident positions in the priority specialties of family medicine, general internal medicine, general surgery, pediatrics, psychiatry, addiction medicine, and addiction psychiatry and the addition of new rural clinical training sites in the state.

Other specialties may apply based on demonstrated need.

Funds may be used for:

  • Resident salary
  • Resident fringe benefits
  • Resident malpractice insurance
  • Resident travel expenses incurred traveling to and from rural clinical training sites
  • Up to 5% of the maximum per resident per year may be used for:
    • Stipends or honorariums for rural faculty
    • Rural faculty development/training
    • Resident housing expenses
Eligibility

Eligible applicants are accredited graduate medical education programs or sponsoring institutions of accredited programs in Wisconsin.
