West Virginia Family Medicine Rural Scholars Program offers scholarships to students who show strong interest in practicing family medicine in rural West Virginia.
If awarded, the medical student's fourth year will include an accelerated rural scholars curriculum and rural clinical rotations. Upon graduation, awardees will move directly into the Family Medicine Residency Program at West Virginia University Morgantown, where their training will focus on developing the clinical, management, and leadership skills that will best prepare them for a successful rural practice.
Candidates must be school of medicine students and must apply by their third year.
Applicant requirements include a commitment to rural family medicine, demonstrated leadership and scholarship during medical school, strong clinical and interpersonal skills, and an understanding of rural culture.
A $10,000 stipend/scholarship will be awarded upon completion of the fourth year of medical school.
