Supporting Healthcare Access through Loan Repayment - I (SHARP-I) offers loan repayment assistance to certain healthcare professionals in exchange for agreeing to practice for a minimum of 2 years in a Health Professional Shortage Area of Alaska.
The following healthcare professionals are eligible to apply:
- Primary care physician (MD or DO), including psychiatrist
- Pharmacist
- Dentist (DDS or DMD)
- Nurse practitioner
- Physician assistant
- Registered nurse
- Certified nurse midwife
- Psychologist (Ph.D. or PsyD)
- Clinical social worker (LCSW)
- Psychiatric nurse specialist (PNS)
- Licensed professional counselor (LPC)
- Marriage and family therapist (MFT)
- Registered clinical dental hygienist
Up to $35,000 a year for Tier 1 practitioners and up to $20,000 a year for Tier 2 practitioners.
A 2 year commitment providing at least 80% direct patient care at eligible primary care, mental health, and oral health practice sites located in a federally designated Health Professional Shortage Area.

Inquiries are accepted year-round. Candidates are reviewed during months of June and/or July, with resulting contract start-dates on or around Sept 1 each year.
